MEMBER CALL BOARD
Show Me the Money: While sitting on Sam Adams' "Creative Capacity Steering Committee," Chris Coleman has been interested in, and wants to share with you, some recent research gathered comparing Portland's overall arts funding breakdown, with national trends.

Raise High the Roof Beams, Arts Carpenters! Many folks see the arts as an add-on or luxury, peripheral to daily life. But the truth is that arts and culture are essential building blocks in the health of cities.

EDUCATION
The First Ever Visions & Voices Playwrights' Slam, starring the playwrights of Cleveland High School: On February 18th, Portland Center Stage is producing our first ever Visions & Voices Playwrights' Slam. Kinda like a poetry slam. Kinda like an open mic. Kinda like an awesome evening of espresso, desserts and hot-off-the-presses, scenes and monologues being read out loud in the Armory Café.

Wrap your head around PCS! Starting in February, the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center and Portland Center Stage put theater on the couch for Formative Stages: Theater and the Life of the Mind, a series of lively post-matinee show discussions on issues, themes and lessons gleaned from PCS plays.

Songs that bring stories to life in unexpected ways: Every First Thursday we invite musicians (as independent of spirit as the great playwrights we know and love) to share their stories and songs in this hearth we call the Gerding Theater at the Armory. February brings us rock-stars. Yes, that's right, rock-stars (albeit in a lower-case, humble way). From Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Wisely and Portland's Per Se.
