Stage Door Notes
from the Education Manager, Kelsey Tyler
Every year we receive letters from the local Title I high school students that we provide in-class workshops for and share free tickets with, thanks to our very generous Stage Door Program Sponsors. What follows are some of my favorite quotes from these letters during our first year in the Gerding Theater at the Armory.
“When I was younger I lived in New York and always wanted to go attend a Broadway play. The reason I didn't is because I couldn't afford to pay for it. With this program in our English class, it made it so I can see the plays for free.”
“Thank you so much for the experience of a lifetime. Being able to watch that play was the highlight of my year. I have told many people how much fun that I had and now all my friends want to go to a play.”
“The demonstrations were great how you guys let us work with you before the plays. I really wish that I could do it again. It taught me how the play was going to be and that made it really fun.”
“I watched Misalliance with my class and liked it so much that I begged my teacher to let me come again to Act a Lady.”
“It really opened my eyes to theater arts. I would have never thought that I would enjoy a play as much as I did.”
“After this experience I realize that a real play is better than watching a movie.”
"I thought it was a lot more enjoyable than watching T.V."
Thanks for your thoughts kids, we couldn’t be more thrilled that you enjoyed this year’s program. Special thanks, for making such a difference in the lives of these and so many other young people, to all our 2006-2007 Stage Door Program Sponsors: The Robert M. Stafrin Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation, Trust Management Services and the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning, as well as the Stimson-Miller Foundation, H.W. Irwin and D.C.H. Irwin Foundation, The BWF Foundation, NW Natural, Stimson Lumber Company, Juan Young Trust, Holzman Foundation, RBC Dain Rauscher Foundation and the Union Pacific Foundation.
